Shopify Automatic Discounts are now supported on recurring orders
We’re excited to introduce support for Shopify Automatic Discounts for subscriptions on recurring orders! This feature is being rolled out gradually over the coming weeks, so availability may vary by store.
More details below.
What’s new
Previously, Shopify automatic discounts only applied at checkout and did not persist to recurring subscription orders, often requiring merchants to rely on discount codes or custom workflows.
With this update, Shopify automatic discounts will carry over to eligible recurring orders beyond checkout, following the discount’s configuration in Shopify. Merchants can also choose to apply these discounts to eligible existing subscriptions, helping reduce manual effort and create a more consistent subscriber experience.
Rollout details
This feature is being rolled out gradually over the coming weeks, so availability may vary by store.
What to expect
If you currently have Shopify automatic discounts configured to apply to multiple recurring subscription orders, we recommend reviewing your setup.
In these cases, you may want to make adjustments to avoid duplicate or unintended discounts once the feature is enabled, especially if you use custom workflows or workarounds (e.g., discount codes or price adjustments) to apply discounts to recurring orders.
Note: Some discount conditions are not supported
Recharge does not currently support all Shopify discount configurations. If any of your automatic discounts include unsupported conditions, they will not be imported for recurring orders. These include:
- Discounts that apply to multiple products or collections (only one product or one collection is supported per discount)
- Discounts limited to specific customer groups (except new customers)
- Discounts that require a minimum cart quantity
