Minnesota Retail Delivery Fee Implementation

The state of Minnesota has introduced a Retail Delivery Fee, effective July 1st, 2024. This fee applies to orders delivered to a Minnesota address with a value of $100 or more. For more detailed information, please review the Minnesota Retail Delivery Fee on the State Department's website to see if you are liable to make this change. Stores using the Shopify Checkout Integration will not need to make any changes, as all taxes are handled by Shopify. If your store is using the Migrated Shopify Checkout Integration or any other checkout on Recharge then this may apply to you.

Action Required:

Recharge does not automatically apply the Minnesota Retail Delivery Fee by default. To comply with this new regulation, you must manually enable this fee through your Recharge merchant portal. Follow these steps to enable the feature if it applies to your store:

1. Log in to your Recharge merchant portal.
2. Navigate to Settings and select Taxes.
3. Enable the Charge customers the Minnesota Retail Delivery Fee option.
4. Save your changes.

Fee Details:

Once enabled, a $0.50 Retail Delivery Fee will be applied to orders with a delivery address in Minnesota and a value of $100 or more for all products. We recommend consulting a Legal Advisor to assess the potential impact of this fee on your store operations.

For more details about implementing this tax please review our help center article.

New Order Errors page, replacing Legacy Charge Errors tab

We're deprecating the old charge errors tab in favor of a more user-friendly solution- the new Order Errors page.

The Order Errors page is designed to make error management straightforward and hassle-free. Instead of hunting through multiple pages of errors, everything you need to know about errors is now neatly organized in one place with tabs organizing by errors.

Review the new experience in our help center.

May Product Updates

Here's what our Product team got up to in May.

APIs

  • Update to Manual Order Processing: If an order is manually processed through the merchant portal, customer portal, or the API before its scheduled charge date, we will adjust the charge date to match the processing attempt date.

Subscription Experiences

  • Upload images in the notification node: Now, when editing notifications in the flows canvas, merchants can see the html editor in a full screen bottom drawer, upload an image to be inserted into the html as a properly formatted tag, and select from previously uploaded images.

Shipping

  • Retain Shipping Rate Improvements: Recharge now conserves the subscription shipping rate in specified scenarios when there is a mixed cart.

Klaviyo

  • New Klaviyo Bundle Properties: Segment subscribers by the items in their bundle subscriptions

New Klaviyo Custom Properties: Segment subscribers by the frequency of their active subscriptions

New custom properties allow you to segment subscribers based on the frequency tied to their active subscriptions using two new custom properties, “rc_active_subscription_product_title_frequency” and “rc_active_subscription_product_SKU_frequency”.

With these new properties, you can easily target customers who are subscribed to a product with an unsuitable order frequency and encourage them to swap to a frequency that is better aligned with the product replenishment time period.

For more information, see our help center documentation.

New Klaviyo Bundle Properties: Segment subscribers by the items in their bundle subscriptions

New custom bundle properties allow you to segment subscribers based on the bundle contents in their active subscriptions using two new custom properties, “rc_active_bundles_contents_product_SKU” and “rc_active_bundles_contents_product_title”.

With these new properties, you can easily target customers with a specific product in their upcoming bundle order to share relevant product information. For example, letting customers know their bundle item is out of stock, and encouraging them to swap to a different product prior to their next charge.

"Retain Shipping Rate" Improvements

Recharge offers the ability for you to conserve a customer's shipping rate from checkout and use that for all recurring charges. We are making a change to how this feature works for mixed carts (one-time and subscription products in the same cart) on Shopify Checkout Integration.

Currently, when customers have a mix of one-time and subscription products in their cart, with differing shipping rates for both, we conserve the cheapest of the two and use that for all recurring charges for that customer. We recognize that this could sometimes lead to inaccurate rates being stored, especially if the one-time's shipping rate happened to be lower than the subscription's shipping rate.

Starting Thursday, May 23, we are making an improvement such that we conserve the subscription shipping rate in such scenarios.

If you are currently retaining shipping rates for your customers, this change may impact you. For more information, please see our documentation.

Update to Manual Order Processing

We are implementing changes to the charge date for manually processed orders. Starting May 21st, we will introduce a change to order processing. If an order is manually processed through the merchant portal, customer portal, or the API before its scheduled charge date, we will adjust the charge date to match the processing attempt date.

Here is an example of the before and after:

  • Currently: On May 10th, a customer enters their customer portal and opts to immediately ship an order that was scheduled for June 1st; we would maintain the charge date as June 1st.
  • This change will begin coming into effect for some stores on May 21st: On May 10th, a customer enters their customer portal and opts to immediately ship an order that was scheduled for June 1st; we will update the charge date to May 10th to align with the processing attempt date. (This would happen regardless of whether the payment attempt succeeds or fails)
This change may affect you if you rely on the charge date field to analyze data for orders processed earlier than their originally scheduled date.

Additionally, we are introducing a new field that indicates the original charge date set when the order was created. This field will be denoted as original_charge_date in our API and Exports. For additional information, please refer to our documentation.
