Upcoming changes to the “Create order only if inventory is available” order processing setting

Starting March 6th, 2025 we will begin rolling out optimizations to how inventory is handled for one-time products, as well as product incentives and free gifts added through Recharge Subscription Experiences.

Current behavior:

When the order processing setting “Create order only if inventory is available (and reduce inventory)” is enabled, Recharge only creates the subscription order if there is available inventory in Shopify. If inventory is not available, the order is marked with an inventory error.

Until now, this behavior has only applied to subscription products. Currently, one time products, free gifts, and incentive products do not follow inventory rules configured in Recharge and will always process, even if they are out of stock.

What’s changing?

Starting March 6th we will begin rolling out optimizations to how inventory is handled. One time products, free gifts, and incentive products billed through Shopify will follow the inventory setting rules and only process if there is inventory in Shopify. If you want these products to continue selling when out of stock, you can adjust the setting to “Continue selling when out of stock” in Shopify.
